Certain TRIM features may not work without an active session. This means that if your computer is not logged into with a keyboard/screen or an open remote desktop window, then certain features may not work. These include AutoStop and some right click options such as End / Terminate Simulation. These limitations apply to TRIM as well as TRIM Grunts. For example, TRIM needs to send certain GUI functions such as key-presses to end a simulation and these can not be sent if the computer running TUFLOW does not have an active session since in practice no GUI exists.

A fix can be applied to ensure these features can work with a minimised remote desktop window instead of only an open remote desktop widow. You should be prompted to apply this fix when a TRIM Grunt is first run. However, you can manually apply the fix by following the steps below. Even after applying this fix, please ensure a remote desktop window is active to the computer. However, after applying the fix, the window may be minimised.

For TRIM modelling clusters with a central TRIM instance and multiple unattended Grunts (with the fix applied), the best practice is to have a minimised remote desktop window to each Grunt open from the central TRIM computer. This should ensure all features work correctly while minimising network traffic.

Manual Steps

Ennsure you make these changes from the computer that you use to connect via remote desktop to the computer running TRIM (ie., NOT the computer running TRIM)

Log in to the computer from which you connect to remote computers (if you are not logged in yet).

Close all open Remote Desktop sessions.

Click Start and select Run. In the Run dialog box, type regedit and press Enter. The Registry Editor starts.

Navigate to one of the following Registry keys, depending on whether you wish to modify the Remote Desktop settings only for the current user or for all users on the computer:

oHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client

oHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client

Create a DWORD value named RemoteDesktop_SuppressWhenMinimized and set it to 2.

Close the Registry Editor.
