Section 5.9.4 (Book 2) of ARR states that inconsistent results can sometimes occur with certain AEPs where the 'bin' that temporal patterns are drawn from changes (ie., frequent, intermediate or rare). The problem is most pronounced between frequent and intermediate bins and in drier regions where rainfall losses absorb a large proportion of the rainfall. Two options are suggested including:
•Draw from both bins at the boundary effectively doubling the ensemble size; or,
•Using the intermediate bin instead of the frequent bin to ensure a smooth response with rainfall
Both of these methods are easy to achieve with Storm Injector. The second method can be undertaken by simply checking the intermediate checkboxes instead of the frequent ones:
To draw from multiple bins, simply select both the frequent and intermediate checkboxes for an AEP.
After steps 4) Creating the Storms, 5) Preparing the Model Runs and 6) Running the Models. You should see that the ensemble contains 20 storms instead of the usual 10.
Storm Injector also includes some right click options when clicking on the Point TP tab in the Selected Events panel to select the primary bins (blue background) or secondary bins (gray background).
